The farruca is another style in the flamenco genre that belongs to the flamenco tangos family. Its origins are unclear but most musicologists point to the pre-flamenco Spanish zarzuela from theater music as its probable precursor. As a flamenco style it was originally created for dance, voice, and guitar but throughout the years the voice has become less present in the style. Farruca de Lucía is one of the first flamenco guitar pieces written for guitar and strings. I wish I had a live version to share with you but I couldn’t find a good one. Still, this one is beautiful! It was also one of the first Farrucas I learned!
