Diego is an excellent teacher with extensive knowledge of classical/flamingo guitar. He is extremely patient and is always enthusiastic in his approach. Diego understands what it takes to be a student and he has researched the learning process especially the techniques involved in memorization. Although I have taken lessons from Diego for several years I feel he is very responsive to my needs as a student and continues to present fresh new ideas!

True professional. Diego is no doubt the highest quality instructor I’ve had the privilege of working with. I’ve played guitar for 25 years (recreationally, electric & steel string acoustic) but had no experience with flamenco (or the classical guitar itself) beyond my love of listening to it. Diego breaks down the techniques in a way that is accurate and true, but still accessible and empowering. I had never even owned a classical guitar before my lessons with Diego, and I now feel comfortable with the instrument and inspired and confident about my future with it.

The great thing about having Diego as a teacher is the way he structures my lessons. The material is tailored to my specific skill level and abilities. From day one, I was given warmup exercises and technicals drills to complement each lesson and piece of music. The purpose is to create good habits and instill a sense of independence. This is critical if you want to play the guitar. Diego also understands the importance of fundamentals—from proper posture, hand and finger positioning, fretboard pressure—he is always paying attention and providing input. He is extremely patient and will not rush you through the material, specially when learning new concepts. But above all, Diego makes the guitar lessons fun. There is no point in having a great teacher if you are not having fun. I highly recommend Diego!

I have had several good guitar instructors in the past, but Diego has impressed me the most. He meets you where you are and freely shares the wealth of knowledge he accumulated over his career. As a result, you advance quickly using the best techniques in the trade. He also has a positive supporting presence that leaves you feeling inspired after every session. I only wish I had started with Diego years ago.

I have been taking classes with Diego for a little less than a year and I don’t think the five stars do enough justice to how good his lessons have been for me. I played a little, only chords, in the school choir when I was a kid; but Flamenco and Classical Spanish guitar has always been my passion, and always wanted to take lessons. Diego has made it smooth and easy to progress faster than I would have thought, but more importantly with structure and a great methodology. He is very detailed oriented, his lessons are clear, his recommendations to overcome challenges and the patience and method that he uses to teach, as a result of all his knowledge and academic preparation as well as his years of experience performing makes him a great professor. I am glad to be taking classes with Diego who has also reassured me, through his lessons, that it is never too late!

I have been taking lessons from Diego for almost a year now and can say he is the best guitar instructor I have ever had. He gives so much more than any of the others, for example; a spreadsheet practice routine to not only learn faster but in a way to eliminate strain and stress, videos almost every session, and notes from each class. He also sends weekly inspirational performance links. I really can’t say enough about how much I’m enjoying my lessons!

I love guitar lessons with Diego!! He introduced me to various techniques that help develop the skill more effectively and are based on psychological research and years of experience. At the end of every class, he sends me an email with notes and recordings of him showing how to play a piece, so I have access to all the tips and references from my classes. Also, I love how he reminds me to rest my arm, play with minimal necessary tension, so that playing is comfortable!! Finally, I find his calm, patient presence creates a good atmosphere for me to learn as I feel comfortable making a mistake while having guidance how to fix it.

Diego is personable and patient and meets you where you are. He also shares a wealth of great tips he has learned over the years. It is a privilege to receive instruction from such a talented guitarist.

Diego focuses on what and how to practice to get through difficulties and keep improving. I am really enjoying the class!

What a brilliant instructor! Diego is well organized, welcoming, patient and encouraging. In the first class he transmitted a great deal of knowledge to me. He did so with acute attention to details and in highly methodological fashion. He truly is an expert! I am well on my way to learning how to play the guitar. Incredible and detailed instruction, cuts to the heart of the matter! Adjusts instruction to skill level and provides ample material to look at while at home. I wish I could give more than 5 stars.

First lesson: Was/am having difficulty with a particular rasqueado technique. Diego “dissected” my motion indicating proper methods for better finger placement and hand positioning. Accompanying this was a video of our lesson for my reference and an informative blog note pertaining to the art of practice. Throughout all Diego had a courteous manner, was receptive of my questions and gave me notes by email about what we had discussed along with practice suggestions. Look forward to continuing with him.
