The soleá (plural = soleares) is a 12-beat style in flamenco that is always played using the Spanish Phrygian Scale and the Andalucian Cadence as its harmonic foundation. It was originally created in the mid-1800s and, like most styles of flamenco, started out as a style for dance and voice.
