Sierra del Agua (Flamenco Guitar)

Sierra del Agua

Sierra del Agua (rondeña).Composed by Vicente Amigo & performed by Luciano Ghosn.

The rondeña is a style of flamenco music that has its roots in the traditional Spanish fandango. There are 2 versions of rondeñas for flamenco: one in standard tuning for voice and dance accompaniment and one in a non-standard D major tuning (D-A-D-F#-B-D) used traditionally for solo flamenco guitar. The accompaniment rondeña is played in 3/4 with an even tempo and clearly defined rhythm. The solo guitar version (like this one), on the other hand, is played ad libitum (i.e., no clearly defined meter, rhythm or tempo). The latter style was created by guitarist and composer Ramón Montoya in the early 1900s. Click here if you want to hear Vicente Amigo’s studio version played by Vicente Amigo.
