1-finger rasgueado (I) Tutorial by Diego Alonso
The 1-finger rasgueado (I) is seemingly the easiest one to play but without the correct expression and execution it can sound robotic and make our playing sound monotonous. The “i” rasgueado is played with by extending and/or contracting the index (I) finger across 2 or more strings and the trick to this is to apply a LOT of dynamic variation to each movement in order to add groove to your music.
It’s easier said than done so in this video, I share examples of the i or i-i rasgueado and share a few exercises so that you can develop this technique correctly. This video is appropriate for beginner & intermediate students of both flamenco and classical guitar.
If you’re just starting with the 1-finger Rasgueado technique, it’s a great way to build control. Once you get comfortable, try the 2-finger Rasgueado technique. It’s a simple step up and will help you gain more rhythm and control.
Next, you can explore the 4-finger Rasgueado technique. This will help you play faster and smoother while keeping control. When you’re ready for a bigger challenge, the 5-finger Rasgueado technique can give you even more ways to play with speed and precision.
Feel free to try these different Rasgueado techniques and see which one works best for you. As you practice, you’ll get better at playing with more confidence and skill.
